The Accuser

Have you ever been accused of something you didn’t do? Have you ever been accused of something you did do? There’s not much difference in the way it makes you feel when this happens. No one enjoys being accused of something and especially when it’s in front of other people. It’s embarrassing at the least, but it also invokes condemnation and fear. Fear of being found out or fear of being condemned for something you didn’t do. And unfortunately defending yourself can appear suspicious at best to even the most loyal of your friends and followers.

Have you ever wondered what the devil does in his spare time? Do you ever think he’s spending too much time picking on you? Well guess what…he is spending time messing with you. There’s an interesting account of an upcoming event you may want to know about.

“Then there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and his angels. And the dragon lost the battle, and he and his angels were forced out of heaven. This great dragon—the ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, the one deceiving the whole world—was thrown down to the earth with all his angels. Then I heard a loud voice shouting across the heavens, ‘It has come at last—salvation and power and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters has been thrown down to earth—the one who accuses them before our God day and night. And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die.’” (Revelation 12:7-11 NLT)

Here we have a picture of Satan before the throne of God accusing the brothers and sisters of the body of Christ day and night! Fortunately we also have a scene of him being cast down and his access to the throne of God ended. Interestingly, this word, “accuser” is only found in the Bible one time. It is translated from the Greek word kategoros. Here’s the meaning in a nutshell; a complainant at law, specifically Satan, coming against one in the assembly. In other words, standing against YOU before God accusing YOU of all you’ve done or not done (which makes no difference to the devil).

After reading these scriptures again yesterday and discovering this new light on the subject, I thought back to the many times I felt the weight of condemnation and accusation and wondered if I was actually feeling the pressure of the enemies verbal assault against me before the throne of God. Nevertheless, we are not alone nor are we without defense.

“My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world. (1 John 2:1-2 NLT)

Jesus Christ is not only the defender of our faith he is OUR defender when the devil is in God’s face accusing YOU to the Father. Christ is the one that has more confidence in you and in his provision for you than you have for yourself when under attack. It is in him you must abide to benefit from the full protection of this wonderful provision.

Remember, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit” (Romans 8:1 KJV). And also remember it is the devil and his angels that will be cast down and those in Christ that will be lifted up.

We both know that if Satan can bring a lying accusation long enough, and loud enough about believers, that people will begin to believe the lie. Especially when it's being repeated by the media!
